Combining marketing topics with business management principles, you'll explore the synergistic relationship between marketing and management. The average salary for a 12-month paid placement is £19,800 for students in the Faculty of Business and Law. It could be more or less than this amount depending on your placement. You'll only pay a very small percentage of your tuition fee for this year.

Study abroad year

Between your second and third year you can choose to study abroad at one of our partner universities in Europe, Asia, Australia or North America. All classes are delivered in English and you'll still be able to get both your tuition fee and maintenance loans. You may also qualify for a .

Modules

Each module on this course is worth a certain number of credits.

In each year, you need to study modules worth a total of 120 credits. For example, four modules worth 20 credits and one module worth 40 credits.

What you'll study

Core modules

There are no optional modules in your first year of study.

You’ll explore topics ranging from financial principles and reporting standards through to budgeting, costing and analytical problem-solving. You'll gain an understanding of accounting’s indispensable role in informing strategy and operations for organisations, and finish this module with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to guide organisations towards financial control.

Concepts, principles, decision frameworks and practices are studied in relation to major aspects of operations management, including: process design, capacity and resource management, supply chain management, inventory management, lean, quality management, systems in business, project management, operations improvement, and the sustainability of operations. Any changes to this module should also be made to the following modules U24493, U24494, U24495, U24496, U24497, U24498, U24499. This module has a partiuclar focus on developing Hallmark 1; Have a critical and reflective knowledge and understanding of their subject, with elements of Hallmark 7; Be effective team players, able to provide leadership and to support the success of others, and 8; Be able to communicate clearly and effectively, in a range of forms and to different audiences.

With ethical foundations, you’ll apply tools spanning surveys, ethnography and data analytics to best inform responsible segmentation, targeting and positioning - while advancing visualisation skills to communicate insights and persuade executive teams. This module provides the core training needed to keep the voice of diverse consumers and people’s wellbeing at the centre of modern brand growth strategies.

Students delve into the realms of debate and critical thinking in the context of marketing and International Business studies.

In this module, students engage in a collaborative virtual project with peers from partnering international universities. This experience allows students to enhance their virtual collaboration skills, cultivate cross-cultural awareness and hone their interpersonal communication abilities — essential for their future in business.

The module tutors act as personal tutors, supporting students in their progress and welfare requirements. The skills and knowledge gained in this module directly complement other core modules studied in the first year along with fostering important employability and career management expertise.

Discover marketing's vital role in organisational strategy and decision-making. You'll explore concepts like environmental analysis, segmentation and positioning, and learn how to identify opportunities and issues in a company's situation. With assessments that focus on applying models to real companies, you'll get hands-on practice conducting audits, developing plans and advising on marketing activity

Core modules

You’ll examine issues affecting the development of new products and services — from intellectual property protection to forming strategic alliances. Using case studies, you’ll contrast private sector and public sector innovation, and determine how to ensure financial viability. By the end of this module you’ll be able to critically appraise how the successful management of innovation enables organisations to build a sustainable competitive advantage over time.

The final assessment artefact on this module is linked to work undertaken by students on the non-credit bearing module Employability and Professional Development.

The module will seek to outline a range of business modelling techniques that allow for improved operational designs under conditions that usually require the allocation of scarce resources using case studies.

Students are provided with an overview of academic research methods and then have the opportunity to apply this knowledge by undertaking a practical piece of research for a live client. This module addresses UoP Hallmarks 1-10.

Optional modules

Combining world-class research with real entrepreneurial experiences, you’ll develop business ideas within teams, evaluating concepts and building executable models. You'll work together to examine issues in venturing, from opportunity recognition to scaling. With an emphasis on personal employability, you’ll identify your strengths while refining your presentation and networking skills. This module fuels your entrepreneurial spirit and helps you turn ideas into realistic propositions — so that you'll graduate with portfolio pieces to showcase your business knolwedge and experience.

Discover corporate financial management as you analyse real-life financial issues to refine your career skills. By blending authentic case studies with workshop activities focused on real companies, you’ll evaluate data, identify issues and improve decision quality. With regular feedback, you’ll bridge the gap between theory and practice. You'll explore how digital transformation and new technologies are changing finance
